An overgrown section makes a home look neglected, even when the inside is spotless. This checklist covers the outdoor jobs that make the biggest difference. ## Lawns mown and edged A freshly mown lawn with clean edges instantly lifts a property. If the grass has grown long, allow time for a couple of cuts, so the lawn isn't scalped right before photos or an inspection. ## Hedges and shrubs trimmed Trim hedges back from paths, windows and the letterbox, and keep sightlines clear from the driveway. Neat hedges make a section look cared for and bigger. ## Garden beds weeded Clear weeds from garden beds and borders. For rentals, laying weed mat with bark on top keeps beds tidy between visits and reduces ongoing work for tenants. ## Gutters cleared Overflowing gutters and weeds growing from the roofline are an easy thing for inspectors and buyers to spot. A gutter clean also helps prevent water damage over winter. ## Paths and driveways cleaned Water blasting removes moss and grime from driveways and paths, which looks better and makes them safer to walk on. ## Rubbish and green waste removed Old clippings, branches and general rubbish lying around the section undo all the other work. Get it taken away before the inspection or listing photos. ## Who looks after the garden in a rental? Responsibilities differ between tenancies, so check your tenancy agreement for who looks after lawns, gardens and hedges.
